1. Free US Map with Hotspot for Each State
This tutorial teaches you how to create a US map with hotspot for each state, when clicking on a state in the map, the related information of the selected state will be displayed. If you don't want to create your own map, you can skip the steps and use the maps I have created: large map (1000 X 618) and medium map (800 X 494)
Things needed:
- A US map picture with state names
- Macromedia Dreamweaver MX (I only have the old version, but it is enough)
- Patience, a lot.
Steps:
It is very easy, but very tedious to create hotspots on a map with Dreamweaver.
- Create a new HTML page
- Insert the US map picture
- In the <img> properties window, give a name for the Map field, say “usMap”
- Click “Polygon Hotspot Tool”, then mark spots through the border of a state until you come back to the first spot
- Dreamweaver will calculate the coordinates for each spot you marked.
- Repeat step 4 until you finished all the states of US.
To save your time and eyes, I am providing my work here free of charge. I have done two versions, one is for a 1000 X 618 US map, the other is 800X494, and it took me two full days to finish them. I hope it will help you.

How to use the map
0. You need tiny bit of HTML knowledge to know how to create a link or an archor on a web page
1. Right click on the map picture and save it to your computer, then upload the image to your web site
2. Copy and paste the above HTML code to your web page that needs the map
3. Change the image source path so it points to the image on your web site
4. Change each hotspot link to the actual page or archor on your web site. For example, in the HTML code in step 2, you will need to change href="#WA" to href="#YourActualArchor". If you don't want to change the archor name, just make sure your anchor names match the ones in the HTML code.
You are done!
